A Great way to meet lots of muslims and learn about Islam. Some of the messengers received revealed books, others may not have. The revealed books we know about are the Torah (which was given to Moses `alayhis-salaam), the Injeel (given to Jesus `alayhis- salaam), the Zaboor (given to David `alayhis-salaam), and the Qur’an (given to Muhammad sallallahu `alayhe wa-sallam). In addition, we know that scrolls were given to Abraham and Moses (`alayhimas-salaam). “Verily, this is in the former scrolls. the scrolls of Abraham and Moses.” [(87) Al-A`laa, 18-19] The former scriptures were corrupted by evil people over history. “Do you, then, hope that they will believe in you, when a group of them used to listen to the word of Allah, and then distort it knowingly after they had understood it? . . . . Woe, then, to those who write the scripture with their own hands, and then say, ‘This is from Allah,’ in order that they might purchase thereby a meager price. Woe to them for that which their hands have written, and woe to them for that which they earn (thereby)!” [(2) Al-Baqarah, 75, 79] Only the Qur’an has been preserved to this day without any alteration, and Allah has undertaken its preservation. “Verily, it is We who have revealed the Reminder (i.e. the Qur’an), and it is We who shall guard it.” [(15) Al- Hijr, 9]
In fact, even if the original forms of the former books were extant today, it would not be allowed to follow them, for all their regulations have been superseded by the Qur’an. “And We revealed the Book to you (Muhammad, sallallahu `alayhe wa-sallam) with the truth, confirming that which is before it, and a controller over it.” [(5) Al-Maa’idah, 48] `Umar radiallahu `anhu once told the Prophet sallallahu `alayhe wa-sallam that he had some parts of the Torah, and asked if he could show them to him. The Prophet’s face changed (showing his anger), whereupon `Umar said, “I am pleased with Allah as Lord, Islam as religion and Muhammad sallallahu `alayhe wa-sallam as Messenger.” The Prophet sallallahu `alayhe wa-sallam said, “By He in Whose Hand is my soul! Even if Moses `alayhis-salaam were to arrive in your midst, and you were then to follow him and leave me aside, you would surely have gone astray.” (Related by Ahmad)
The Qur’an is the speech of Allah. “And, if one of the pagans seeks protection from you, then give him protection so that he may hear the Speech of Allah.” [(9) Al-Tawbah, 6] He revealed it to His Messenger, Muhammad, sallallahu `alayhe wa-sallam as inspiration through the Trusted Spirit, the Angel Jibreel `alayhis-salaam. “And verily, it is has come down from the Lord of the Worlds. It was brought down by the Trusted Spirit, to your heart, in order that you might be one of the Warners, in clear Arabic speech.” [(26) Ash-Shu`araa’, 192-195] The believers acknowledge it as the truth, and are certain that it is really the speech of Allah. It does not resemble the speech of created beings, nor is it created. The words and sounds we make when reading the Qur’an, and our writing of the Qur’an are all deeds of ours, and are therefore created, but the eternal speech of Allah, which is one of His attributes, is uncreated. Anyone who hears the Qur’an and claims that it is mortal speech is a disbeliever. Waleed ibn al-Mugheerah, one of the chiefs of the disbelievers in Makkah, once heard the recitation of the Qur’an, and it seemed that he softened towards it. News of this reached Abu Jahl, who thereupon came to Waleed and told him that Quraysh was collecting money to give to him. Waleed responded, “Quraysh knows that I have the most money of them all.” Abu Jahl said, “Then say something in order that your people might know that you reject what he (the Prophet sallallahu `alayhe wa- sallam) says, and that you hate it.” He said, “But what can I say about it? By Allah! There is no man amongst you who is more knowledgeable in poetry than me, nor better acquainted with its meter and its verse, nor with the poetry of the jinn. By Allah! That which he says does not resemble any of this. By Allah! The word which he utters verily has a sweetness, and it annihilates that which is beneath it, and verily it towers and is not surpassed.” Abu Jahl said, “Your people will not be satisfied until you say (something bad) about it.” He said, “Then leave me to think about it.” After thinking he said, “This is only sorcery, which he passes on from another.” (Related by Tabari) In response to this wretched individual, Allah revealed twenty verses of the Qur’an. “Leave Me with he whom I created solitary, and to whom I gave abundant wealth, and sons abiding in his presence, and for whom I made life smooth. Yet, he desires that I give him more. By no means! He has been obstinate with Our signs. I shall overtake him with Sa`ood (a mountain in Hell). He thought and assessed. Then, destroyed is he! How he assessed! Then, again, destroyed is he! How he assessed! Then, he looked. Then he frowned and scowled with displeasure. Then, he turned away and was arrogant, for he said, ‘This is nothing but transmitted sorcery. This is nothing but mortal speech.’ Him shall I roast in Saqar (Hell). And, what will convey to you what Saqar is? It neither leaves nor spares. It burns man. Over it are nineteen (angels).” [(74) Al-Muddaththir, 11-30] So, since Allah has criticized the one who describes the Qur’an as mortal speech, and has reproved him and threatened him with Hell, we become certain that the Qur’an is the speech of the Creator of Men, and that it does not resemble the speech of men.
