A Great way to meet lots of muslims and learn about Islam.

1 - “Watch your tongue, most of the people enter the hellfire because of their tongue.”

Watch your tongue from:

1- False Testimony
2- Backbiting
3- Spreading news
4- Lying
5- Speaking rubbish
6- Speaking kufr
7- Speaking about sexual matters
8- Speaking about what Allah forbids.

The Prophet (saw) said: “A servant may say a word that he never verified, he will go with it to the hellfire as deep as the east to the west.” Bukhari 6477, Muslim 2988, Musnad Imam Ahmad 8703

And: “A person may say a word to make people laugh, he will go with it far away (from the earth in the hellfire.)” Musnad Imam Ahmad 8967

Any swearing with Sexual connotations is COMPLETELY HARAM.

To Curse is not allowed. However cursing the kuffar came from the Qur’an because Allah has cursed them, though we do not curse them all the time unnecassarily.

- To talk insulting someone’s looks etc. is haram

The Prophet (saw) said: “A muslim does not swear, curse or ridicule.” [Muslim]

Do not swear at anything; including stones, wind, time etc.

The Prophet (saw) said: “A person will say a word that pleases Allah (swt) without even to consider it to be important, Allah will elevate him high in paradise because of it and a servant will say a word that will anger Allah, without even to think it important, he will go with it to the hellfire.” Bukhari 6478, Musnad Imam Ahmad 8206, Muwatta’ 1849

Mu’az ibn Jabr asked The Prophet (saw) “tell me about an action that will make me enter the paradise, and distance me from the hellfire.” The Prophet (saw) started to count the 5 pillars, and all the good deeds, and asked “do you want me to tell you the combination of all these in one sentence?” “He said “yes”, the Prophet (saw) caught his tongue and said, “Watch your tongue.” He said “are we to be accounted for what we say?” the Prophet (saw) said “may your mother cry for you, people will be thrown into hellfire on their faces as a result of there tongues” Musnad Imam Ahmad 21511, Tirmizi 2616, Ibn majah 3973

Sahl ibn Sa’id
The Prophet (saw) said: “Who can Guarantee to guard what is between your lips (tongue) and between his legs, I Guarantee for him Paradise.” Bukhari 6474, Musnad Imam Ahmad 22316, Tirmizi 2408

Abu Sa’id al khidree said: “The Messenger Muhammad (saw) said: “If the son of Adam wakes up, all his organs will say to his tongue, “fear Allah with us today. If you are straight then we are straight, if you are astray we are astray."." Musnad Imam Ahmad 11498 / 11908, Tirmizi 2407

Nu’man bin bashir
The Prophet (saw) said: “Verily there is a small organ in the body that if it is good the whole body is good, if it is bad, the whole body is bad. It is the heart”

- The Khalifah (and the messenger and the Translator) of the Heart is the TONGUE.

2 - SAY GOOD OR SHUT UP.

Abu Huraira said
The Prophet (saw) said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the hereafter, do not harm your neighbour. Whoever believes in Allah and the hereafter, honour your guests. Whoever believes in Allah and the hereafter, let him speak good (Islam) or let him shut up.”. Bukhari 6018, Muslim 47, Musnad Imam Ahmad

3 - EVERY GOOD WORD IS CHARITY.

Abu Huraira
The Prophet (saw) said: “Any peace established between the people is sadaqa, everyday that justice is implemented (Shari’ah) is sadaqa, and everyone you help to put his food on his animal is sadaqa, and the good word is sadaqa, and every step to the salah is sadaqah, and to remove the harmful thing from the road is sadaqah.” Bukhari 2989, Muslim 1009, Musnad Imam Ahmad 27400

Uday ibn hatim…
The Prophet (saw) mentioned the hellfire, and whenever he mentioned it he would turn his face and say “A’udhubillah” and he said it twice then he said

“…Fear Allah and save yourself from the hellfire even by the slice of a date, if you do not have that, then by the good word.” Bukhari 6563, Muslim 1016, Musnad Imam Ahmad 17782, An-Nasaa’I 2553

4 - THE VIRTUES OF SPEAKING LITTLE, AND NOT TO TALK WITHOUT BENEFIT.

Al mughira ibn shu’ba
The Prophet (saw) said: “Allah has forbidden upon you to disobey your parents, to dishonour you parents, to take without right and give what is not allowed, and to bury your children. And disliked for you to gossip, and to ask a lot about something that is not benefiting you, and to waste your money.” Bukhari 5975, Muslim 593, Musnad Imam Ahmad 1781(? unsure)

Jabir ibn Abdullah
The Prophet (saw) said: “Those who are the dearest to me and closest sitting with me in the majlis on the day of judgement, those with good character (Islamic Personality), and those who are most hated to me and farthest from my majlis on the day of judgement is at-tatharun - those who speak a lot (especially non-Islamic things.) And those who when they speak they speak with an accent (al-mudashadikun - when you emphasise words making it long and moving your mouth and face with it etc), and mutafayqihun - those who are not scholars, but says he is, and speaks of the fiqh of his own mind (or gives fatwa etc).”

Sahabah asked: “we know those who speak a lot, we know about those who speak with accent, but what about those who say they are ‘Alim,”

The Prophet (saw) said: “they are arrogant and they have no knowledge.” Musnad Imam Ahmad 17278, Tirmizi 2018, Sharh Muslim section. 12 p.10

Abu Huraira said: “There is no good in the permissible words.”

Umar ibn Khattab said: “Whoever speaks a lot has a lot of sins.”

Ibn Kaasib said: “I heard Imam Maalik say that there is no good in a lot of talking, take a lesson from the women and children and be careful of that.”

5 - BE CAREFUL OF BACKBITING AND NAMEEMA

“To mention about your Muslim brother what he dislikes is backbiting”

Backbiting is speaking about someone’s character, physical attributes behind his back that he does not like.

- To say someone is a lawyer is not backbiting even if he does not want people to know
- But to say someone has a disabled sticker, and he does not want people to know, that is backbiting, because it is talking about his physical disability.

It is obligatory to backbite for
- Testimony
- etc

It is recommended for
- Giving information on someone who has proposed to someone.
- etc

Abu Huraira
The Prophet (saw) said:
“Do you know what backbiting is?”

“He said Allah and his messenger know best.”

“Saying behind someone’s back what he doesn’t like.”

“What, even if it is true?”

“If it is true it is backbiting and if it is false it is slander.”

Muslim 2589 , Musnad Imam Ahmad 2160, Tirmizi 1934

The Prophet (saw) said:

“There is no Backbiting for the Fasiq (open and public)”

Tirmizi , Faydh il kadir vol 6 p 28, Kitaab tadribi ar-raawi [imam sayouti] vol 2 p 274

Allah (swt) said: “And those who accuse chaste women, and produce not four witnesses, flog them with eighty lashes, and reject their testimony forever. They indeed are the fasiqun. Except those who repent thereafter and do righteous deeds; verily, Allah is oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.”

[24: 4-5] (Prohibition of spreading fahisha)

6- IT IS HARAM TO SAY…

“Im free to do whatever I like”
“I don’t care”
“Swearing by other than Allah”
“The people do so”
Or
“All people do so”
“The forgiven …so and so…”
“Allah remembered him and took him”
“Allah loved him so much that is why he took him young.”
“…So and so… is shaheed.”
“There is freedom of religion”
“Hajji …so and so…”
“Mujahid …so and so…”
“Cursing all time”

Etc, Etc.

7 - LYING, BE AWARE OF IT.

Lying is: “Informing the opposite to the reality, whether you mean it or not.”

Allah (swt) said: “Oh you who believe! Be afraid of Allah, and be with those who are true (in their word and deed).” 9:119]

“Sidq always leads to birr, and birr is the accepted good deeds.” [Tafseer]

“Lying is haram, known by necessity and anybody who denies that is kaafir.”

Abu Huraira that
The Prophet (saw) said: “The signs of the hypocrite is three, when he speaks he lies, and whenever he promises he breaks it, and whenever you entrust him with something he betrays it.” Bukhari 6095

“(the signs of the munafiq ...)… And whenever you have treaty with him, he breaks it, and whenever he is angry he swears.” An-nisaa’i

Subra ibn: “I saw this night two men who took me to Jerusalem one was standing and one was sitting… one was armed with a weapon of metal, and he put it in a mans mouth and pressed it until it came out his back, and repeated it… “ The Prophet (saw) said, “the one being punished is the liar."”

The one who lies about the Qur’an is kaafir.

Ibn Taymiyyah said: “Be careful of tafseer it is a type of narrating from Allah”

“Whoever lies to take money from his muslim brother or to put him down, will meet Allah while he is angry with him.”

Abdullah ibn Amru: “The big sin is Shirk, to dishonour the parents, to lie, and the false oath.” Bukhari 6675, Tirmizi 3021

Ibn Mas’oud said: “We used to say the sin that has no kafarah, was lying….”

There is permit to lie, in three places

- In jihad
- In reconciling between muslims
- And between husband and wife to maintain peace and tranquility

Umm khultum
The Prophet (saw) said: “It is not a lie to reconcile between people.”

“I did not hear the Messenger give permit to lie except in three, to reconcile, in jihad and between husband and wife.” (To nearest words.)
