A Great way to meet lots of muslims and learn about Islam.

Allah (swt) said: “O children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover yourselves (screen your private parts) and as an adornment; and the raiment of righteousness, that is better. Such are among the Ayat of Allah, which they may remember. O children of Adam! Let not shaytan deceive you as he got your parents (Adam and Hawwa) out of paradise, stripping them of their raiment, to show them their private parts. Verily, he and Qabiluhu (his soldiers from the Jinn or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them. Verily, we made the shayateen awliya’ for those who do not believe.” [7:26-27]

- At the time of Adam (as) the shaytan convinced him to eat from the tree, and their clothes dropped
- Today the Shaytan has convinced the people that it is good to take off their clothes, he calls it liberalism, freedom, democracy etc

Abdullah said: “the Prophet (saw) said, “eat, drink, spend and wear without extravagance or arrogance or showing off” An Nisaa’i 2559, Musnad Imam Ahmad 6656, Ibn Majah 3605

1 - IT OBLIGATORY TO COVER THE AWORAH

Allah (swt) said: “O children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover yourselves (screen your private parts) and as an adornment; and the raiment of righteousness, that is better.” [7: 26]

Muhammad (saw) said, “It is not allowed for a man to look at the awrah of another man, and not allowed for a woman to look at the awrah of another woman, and a man should not sleep under the same blanket as another man, and the same for women and another women” Muslim 338 , Musnad Imam Ahmad 11207 , Tirmizi 2973

- The awrah is the part of your body that must be covered

ibn mahram said: “I was carrying a heavy rock and I used to have very light loggings on my pants, I was carrying it and my loggings got untied and I was not able to pull it up, so I carried on till I placed the rock down, the Prophet (saw) said “go back and get it and don’t walk naked"” Muslim 341 , Abu Dawood 4016

ibn hakim said:

“How can we deal with our awrah? (the part which must be covered)”,
The Prophet (saw) said,
“Save (or protect) your awrah except from your wife or what your hand possesses”,
“If people are in a gathering what should I do”,
The Prophet (saw) said,
“Do not let anybody see any part of you as much as you can”,
“What if I am alone oh Prophet?”,
The Prophet (saw) said,
“Be shy from Allah more than people.”

- For men: from the navel to the knee is Awrah
- There is dispute over whether the knee is awrah or not: most Fuqaha (including Hanafis, Maalikis and Hanbalis) say it is awrah.

“The Prophet (saw) passed by and the narrator said “I had clothes but the thigh was uncovered, the Prophet (saw) said to me cover the thigh it is awrah.”

- Imam Shafi’I (and we) believe that between the navel and knee is awrah and the navel is not awrah and the knee is not awrah.

- For Women from the chest to the knees is HARD AWRAH
- For Women everything else except face and hands is SOFT AWRAH

“Asmaa’ came to visit Aisha (they are sisters), she was wearing a thin dress from head to the knee, the Prophet (saw) said “Oh Asmaa’ when a woman reaches puberty, it is not allowed to show anything except this and this, (he pointed to the face and hands)"”

- there is no evidence to say that a free woman can reveal her awrah to other women
- For men no one except those lawful to him are allowed to see his awrah
- For women there is no dispute that the husband can see all of her awrah
- There is dispute as to what others can see of her:
- Her mahram CANNOT see any of her HARD AWRAH from her chest to her knees, this includes armpits, and what is necessary to cover the armpits.
- In front of women it is the same if they are trustworthy
- There is dispute about kuffar women as they might describe her to another man.
- Hanafis say belly is allowed in front of women, but strongest evidence is that it is HARAM
- To show the shape of the body is not awrah to other women, but it is in front of men even mahram
- It is allowed to wear revealing clothing in front of other women, as long as it does not over expose the parts that are shapely
- It is not allowed to wear clothes that imitate the kuffar.

The Prophet (saw) said: “there are two types of people I have not seen yet, a women who carries a tall thin whip like the tail of a cow, and a women who wears clothes but is naked (i.e. wears such tight clothes that there is no point, or wears revealing clothing, or wears see through clothing) walking seductively. These are people of hellfire.”

Allah (swt) said: “Tell the believing men to lower their gaze, and protect their private parts (Awrah and from zina). That is purer for them. Verily Allah is All-aware of what you do.” [24: 30]

- husband and wife have no Awrah from eachother

Allah (swt) said: “And those who guard their chastity. Except from their wives or that their right hands possess, for them they are free from blame.” [23: 5]

Aisha said: “We (the Prophet (saw) and Aisha) did ghusl from the same pot, we would take water alternating and our hands would sometimes touch taking water.” Bukhari 261, Muslim 316

- however we should be shy from Allah and sleep with our wives under a blanket, and remain covered as much as possible

The Prophet (saw) saw a man taking a shower in an open area, and the Prophet (saw) gave a talk, he said: “Allah is shy, the shyness of Allah is not shy from you, he accepts shyness from those who are shy, and he likes you to cover, and he will cover you on the day of judgement, so if you are showering hide yourself” Abu Dawood 40192, Musnad Imam Ahmad 17509

Ibn Hakim asked:

“What if I am alone oh Prophet?”,
The Prophet (saw) said,
“Be shy from Allah more than people.”

2 - IT IS FORBIDDEN TO IMITATE THE OPPOSITE SEX

It is forbidden for a man to look like a woman and for a woman to look like a man, for a woman to talk and walk like a man or to work or to behave like a man and there is a curse on them if they do.

“The Prophet (saw) cursed those (men) who want to be similar to woman and those (women) who want to be similar to men.”

And other Ahadeeth says, “the Prophet (saw) cursed man to be feminine, and woman to be masculine.” So it says “those who want to speak and walk like the opposite sex throw them out your home”

Umar ibn Khattab threw a man out of the city for this reason

Bukhari 5885, 5886 , Musnad Imam Ahmad 1983

- in this hadith it is clear that man is cursed to look like the opposite sex, whether in clothes, speech, working etc, so we say walking talking working and wearing,
- if someone naturally look like that e.g. a man speaks soft naturally, or a woman has a big moustache, if you are like this, Imam Hajr said “if a mans nature is like this or a woman’s nature is to have a hard voice, then let her speak like this, and the man should toughen his voice.”
- So in other words if somebody wears the clothes of a woman kick him out, the same for woman, if she is wearing trousers and shirt, she must not even wear it at home. So the hadith says don’t look or act as the opposite sex.
- The hadith says that it is forbidden for a woman to even wear her husband’s slippers if they are clearly masculine.
- A man whose voice is like this should not lead the salah or give public talk, if you do, then you must make your voice tough, if a woman speaks then make it tough, harden your voice.

3 - IT IS RECOMMENDED TO SHOW THE NI’MA IN YOUR CLOTHES

It is recommended to show your wealth in your clothes not in a showing off manner, but just to show Allah’s favour upon you.

- Wear the best of your clothes even at home,
- When you go out, wear the best of your clothes available at the time,
- if you have an old one and a new one then wear the new one,

“I came to the Prophet (saw) with clothes that were old, he (saw) said “do you have wealth and money?” he said “yes” he (saw) asked “what type of wealth,” he said “Allah (swt) gave me camels, sheep, horses and slaves,” “if Allah gave you this, let it be seen, in order that his favour can be seen upon, so Allah and people see it” Abu Dawood 4063 , Albaani 5457, Musnad Imam Ahmad1 5223

Allah (swt) said: “O children of Adam! Take your adornments (wear your best clothes) when praying (or go to the mosque)…” [7:31]

4 - IT IS FORBIDDEN TO WEAR THE CLOTHES OF ARROGANCE

Abu Huraira narrated
The Prophet (saw) said: “The one who trails his clothes in arrogance in the earth, Allah will not look at him on the day of judgement.” Bukhari 5788, Muslim 2087, Musnad Imam Ahmad 8778

The Prophet (saw) said: “A man was walking in pride, and trailed in arrogance, the Prophet saw him and he said: “Allah (swt) made a landslide under his feet on the day of judgement to place him in fire, once a man was walking by himself with a new dress and was showing off, and left his clothes dragging, and walking in arrogance, and he too will have a landslide to hell …” Bukhari 5789, Muslim 2088 , Musnad Imam Ahmad 7574, Darami 437

- Islam forbids you to drag your clothes.
- Don’t have to just trail your clothes like composers with the tails behind him

Allah said: “Pride is my dress, and the greatness is my loggings and whoever competes with me will be in Hellfire.” Muslim 2620

The Prophet (saw) said: “Dignity is the laws of almighty Allah (swt), and his cloak is his pride, and if anyone competes with Allah (swt) he will be punished” Muslim 2620 , Musnad Imam Ahmad 7335, Abu Dawood 4090

Ibn Mas’oud
The Prophet (saw) said: “No one will enter paradise, who has an atom of pride in his heart…” Muslim 91, Musnad Imam Ahmad 3779

5 - IT IS FORBIDDEN TO WEAR THE CLOTHES OF FAMOUS PEOPLE

The Prophet (saw) said: “Whosoever wears clothes of fame in the dunya, Allah (swt) will make him wear clothes of humiliation” Musnad Imam Ahmad 5631 , Abu Dawood 4029

- It is forbidden to imitate people of corruption
- It is forbidden to wear clothes because someone famous wears it

6 - IT IS FORBIDDEN FOR MEN TO WEAR GOLD OR SILK

It is forbidden for a man to wear gold and silk without an excuse, and is permissible for women to wear without excuse.

It is forbidden for men for the following reasons:
- It is a woman’s item of clothing
- man is the one who seeks wife, that’s why they (the women) wear gold and stuff like silk, man is not the sought he is the seeker.

Talib said: “The Prophet (saw) took silk in his right hand and silk in the left, and said “this is forbidden for the male of my Ummah"” Abu Dawood 4057, An Nisaa’i 5144, Ibn Majah 3595, Albaani (hadith saheeh) 3422

Abi Umana
The Messenger (saw) said: “Whoever wears silk in the dunya will not wear it in the hereafter” Muslim 2074

Abu Huraira said:
“The Prophet (saw) forbade wearing gold rings” Bukhari 5864, Muslim 2089, Musnad Imam Ahmad 9709, An Nisaa’i 5273

- so it is forbidden generally to wear gold or silk
- there are permits for illnesses or for war etc

anas reported: “The Prophet (saw) gave permit to Abdul Rahman and Zubel to wear silk shirts, because of their itchy skin.” Bukhari 2919, Muslim 2076, Musnad Imam Ahmad 11821

- it is permissible to wear silk in war,
- or in emergency to cover awrah if nothing is available
- in war it is allowed to look like a young man, it gives fresh look for anybody, it is even allowed to dye the beard black to look young to enemy

- Islam gives permission for a man to have no more then 4 fingers of silk, if a patch is silk,
- the hadith says, 3 or 4 sizes Umar ibn Khattab said to wear silk, the size of 2 or 3 or 4 fingers, this depends on the size of finger, that’s why such variation in sizes, two finger on one man is the same as 4 on another in size.
- Ties are not allowed, it is 2 or 4 fingers as part of the garment not a separate one.

Reported by Fajr: “he was a sahabi on the battle of kulab he lost his nose, so he started to wear a cloth on his nose, and it smelled so people said “leave” to him, the Prophet (saw) said “wear a nose of gold”, and he made one with two holes”

Abdul Rahman ul Turfa transmitted

Abu Dawood 4332 , Musnad Imam Ahmad 18527 , Tirmizi 1770 , An Nisaa’i 5161

- it is allowed to wear gold for medical treatment
- so gold noses or gold teeth etc are allowed

There is dispute among the Fuqaha as to whether children are allowed to wear silk

- Young girls are allowed
- Most Scholars say that it is not allowed, it is forbidden for men so it is forbidden for boys, that you teach them at the age of 7 and discipline them at the age of 10, so they are allowed up to the age of 10
- Ibn Taymiyyah says no
- We (Sheikh Omar Bakri Muhammad opinion) follow the opinion that it is forbidden at any age.

“Umar ibn Khattab saw a child wearing a dress of silk, he cut it and said don’t let him wear it, another man saw it too and did the same and said the Prophet (saw) said no don’t wear it, the child is not accountable but the child will be the evidence”

Kitaab al Fattawa vol 22 page 143 , An Nisaa’i 5161

7 - IT IS FORBIDDEN FOR THE WOMEN TO SHOW THEIR ZEENA, EXCEPT TO THOSE WHO ALLAH (SWT) GAVE EXCEPTION TO IN THE AYAH

Zeena - her beauty etc.

“And say to the female believers to lower their gaze and to guard their chastity and not to show their zeena except what is apparent, and to draw their veils all over their bodies… and not to reveal it to anyone except to their husbands or their fathers (and grandfather) or their husbands fathers (and grandfather), or their sons (and grandson), or their husbands son (and grandson), or your brother or their brothers sons (and grandson) or their sisters sons (and grandson), or their women, or their (female) slaves or the old male servants who lack vigour, or the young children who know nothing of femininity, and do not stamp your feet to reveal it …” [Nur: 31]

what is “apparent”?

- some say face and hands
- some say the clothes (i.e. if the clothes are not dazzling then they can show it.) they say that all the women is awrah. (hanbalis and salafis of today)

Salafis of the past said that what is apparent is her face and hands (if it is not dazzling i.e. make up and mendhi etc)

Hanafis say face, hands and feet.

We say that the strongest evidence is that the face and hands are “what is apparent”.

The hidden adornment is face and hands etc according to hanbalis.

The face is not awrah but any adornment is and must be covered.

8 - STAMPING THE FEET REVEALS THE AWORAH

“… and do not stamp your feet to reveal it …” [Nur: 31]

- Stamping the feet reveals the Awrah
- So it is not allowed for women to stamp their feet in order to show off their ankles
- The arab women used to wear anklets

- The Sunnah is to have short dress for man and long for woman,
- for the man it is between the middle of the (lower) leg up to above the ankle, so above the ankle maximum to the middle of his leg.
- Women must not show Anything, even her foot, it is her awrah (shafi’i opinion, Hanafi says allowed by circumstances)

Abu Huraira reported
The Messenger (saw) said, “Whatever is below the ankle from your loggings is in hellfire for you” Bukhari 5787, Musnad Imam Ahmad 10177

- Imam Ahmad said “the longy of the believer is from the middle of his legs down to the top (above) of his ankles anything below that is in the hell fire”

Abu Dhar reported
The Prophet (saw) said: “Three people, Allah will not look at them or forgive them or praise them”, and he said it three times.
Abu Dhar said “who are these failures, what a shame,”

The Prophet (saw) said “the one who makes his loggys below his ankles and the one who gives donation and speaks about it years afterwards and keeps reminding you, (don’t repeat everytime and every meeting you) and The one who sells goods swearing by Allah (swt) and lying to sell it, (says to you I swear by Allah it is the best computer in the world and you find later it is old and obsolete)” Muslim 106 , Musnad Imam Ahmad 20811 , Tirmizi 1211

Umm Salamah the wife of the Prophet (saw) said:

“When you talk about clothing above the ankles for men, what about woman?”
He (saw) said: “let her leave a span from the middle of her legs”
She said that it will reveal her legs,
He (saw) said “ok, let her leave a full arm from the middle”

Musnad Imam Ahmad 25972 , Abu Dawood 4117 , Tirmizi 1732

- So covering the ankles is acceptable for woman

It is makrouh for men to cover their ankles and haram if it is out of arrogance.

Abu Bakr said “Muhammad (saw) I’m a person who is a failure, whose loggings goes down,” he (saw) said “you don’t do it out of arrogance, you cant help it because you are slim,”
he said “one of the two cuts of my loggings goes down sometimes,”
“it isn’t arrogance you didn’t do it intentionally,”

- Do make your effort to put it up as it slips it isn’t a problem and most importantly he said you aren’t one of arrogance,

So the Fuqaha say we can make analogy on it, but it is recommended in general but he (saw) mentioned hellfire so it is a decisive request, who ever does it out of fame (if we combine the Ahadeeth) you are sinful, if it is too long then hold it that is the Sunnah.

“The Prophet (saw) went to pray and his dress was below the ankles” Bukhari 5785 , Musnad Imam Ahmad 19877 , An Nisaa’i 1502

“The Prophet (saw) was running to the mosque when he saw the sun eclipse and his dress was on the floor.” Bukhari 5787

- Here we say, he told us not to do it out of Arrogance, he was in a hurry

9 - IT IS FORBIDDEN TO WEAR ANY CLOTHES THAT ARE SYMBOLIC OF KUFR, SUCH AS A CROSS OR ANYTHING ELSE CONNECTED WITH ANOTHER RELIGION, OR ANYTHING WITH ANY PICTURES OF LIVING PEOPLE (OR ANIMALS)

- No flags are allowed on clothes except any disrespectful places like shoes
- No animals or people.

Reported by A’isha (ra)

That the Prophet (saw) disagreed with her when she made a cushion for him with pictures of living things,

Al-Qasim bought a cushion with animals, and the Prophet (saw) did not enter the house,

She said, “tell me what I did and I will repent.”

He said, “What is this cushion?”

She said “I bought it for you to sit on it and to sleep on it”

He said “the one who made it will be punished in the hereafter and will continue to be punished and will be asked to give life to what they created and they will never be able to, and the angels will never enter a house with pictures” Bukhari 5957, Muslim 2107, Musnad Imam Ahmad 25559

The hadith says, “If you want to draw, draw a tree or mountain”

Other fuquha say that it was a curtain not a cushion, and A’isha cut it and made a cushion, and the Prophet (saw) sat on it. (There is another hadith definitely mentioning curtains.)

Umran ibn Khattab reported
“A’isha did not leave in his (saw) house anything that has a cross without to destroy it or remove it.” Bukhari , Musnad Imam Ahmad 23740, Abu Dawood 4151

A’isha said: “The Prophet (saw) came back from travelling, and I unconsciously put up a curtain with pictures of animals, when the Prophet (saw) came, he took it out and cut it to pieces, and said “Allah will punish those who compete with Allah in his creation.” I made two cushions with it.” Bukhari 5954, Muslim , Musnad Imam Ahmad 24197

It is haram to pray with the cross or any animals on his clothes. And if he knows he has the cross on it and is proud of it, then it is kufr.

- If he prays with it then he is sinful, and his salah is not valid.
- Some fuquha say that he is sinful but his salah is valid.
- He should change it (to deface it)

If it is not apparent, then you are sinful, but your salah is valid.

What about to pray in a room with Images of people or animals put up on the walls?

- It is haram in the Mosque
- It is makrouh in the home
- It is permissible in a public place, like an office

10 - WHENEVER YOU WEAR ANYTHING TO START WITH THE RIGHT HAND SIDE

- If you put on a shirt start with the right arm etc

Reported by A’isha (ra): “The Prophet (saw) used to like to start by his right in his purity, in his clothes and when he rode anything” Bukhari 5854, Muslim 268, Musnad Imam Ahmad 24106

It is recommended, to do everything by the right hand side first.

If you enter the toilet go by left, and come out by the right (foot), enter the mosque by the right. But leave with the left.

11- IT IS RECOMMENDED TO WEAR SLIPPERS

The Prophet (saw) said: “If anyone of you wears the shoes or slippers, to put it on by the right and remove it by the left.” Bukhari 5856, Muslim 2097, Musnad Imam Ahmad 7753

- It is disliked for the man to walk with one shoe (some say haram)

Abu Huraira narrated
The Prophet (saw) said: “If you have a sandal and the strap breaks, do not wear the other until it is fixed” Muslim 2098, Musnad Imam Ahmad 9199

Abu Huraira narrated
The Prophet (saw) said: “No one of you should walk wearing one shoe, both should be bare or covered” Bukhari , Muslim , Musnad Imam Ahmad 7302, Tirmizi 1774

- Some say it is makrouh
- Some say makrouh tahrim
- Sheikh Omar Bakri Muhammad says it is Haram

Abu Huraira reported
The Prophet (saw) said: “The Shaytan walks with one shoe.” Al-Albaani (saheeh) 348

- The Sunnah is to walk bare foot
- Combining ALL the evidences says that it is Forbidden

Buraydah reported: “A sahabi visited fudala ibn ‘Ubayd in Egypt, he said “I did not come to visit you just for the sake of it, I came to ask you if you remember something that the Prophet (saw) said. I wish if you still remember what he said to (both of) us” ibn ‘Ubayd said, “What is that”, he told him.
He asked him why his hair was a mess; he said, “ The Prophet (saw) said not to always be vain.” He asked why he was barefoot, He said, “the Prophet (saw) ordered us to be barefoot from time to time."” Abu Dawood, Musnad Imam Ahmad 23449

12 - IT IS RECOMMENDED TO SAY THE DU’A WHENEVER YOU WEAR SOMETHING NEW

Abu Sa’id al Khidree: “When the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) put on a new garment he mentioned it by name, turban or shirt, and would then say: O Allah, praise be to Thee! as Thou hast clothed me with it, I ask Thee for its good and the good of that for which it was made, and I seek refuge in Thee from its evil and the evil of that for which it was made.”

[Allahuma lakal hamdu anta kasawtaneehi as’aluka min khayrihi wa khayrihi maa suni’a lahu, wa A’udhu bika min sharrihi maa suni’a lahu]

Tirmizi 1767, Abu Dawood 4009

There is Another du’a.

Narrated by Mu’adh ibn Anas

“The Prophet (saw) said: If anyone eats food and then says:
“Praise be to Allah Who has fed me with this food and provided me with it through no might and power on my part,” he will be forgiven his former and later sins. If anyone puts on a garment and says: “Praise be to Allah Who has clothed me with this and provided me with it through no might and power on my part,”
he will be forgiven his former and later sins.”

[Alhamdu lillahi-llaziy kasaani haazaa (ththawba)wa razaqaneehi min ghairi hawlin minniy wa laa quwwah]

- Anyone who says it his past sins will be forgiven,
- some fuquha say, present,
- some say future as well

Abu Dawood 4012

Abdullah ibn ‘Umar: “The Prophet (saw) saw my father wearing bright white clothes, he asked “is it white because it is washed or new?” he said “it is washed”, he (saw) said “wear new, go with dignity and die shaheed"”

[ilbas jadeedan wa ‘ish hameedan wa mut shaheedan]

Musnad Imam Ahmad 5588, Ibn Majah 3558, Albaani 2879, Tirmidhi 2/505

“The Prophet (saw) came with a small waistcoat and said, “To whom shall we give this to wear?” The people kept silent whereupon the Prophet said, “Fetch Um Khalid for me.” I (Um Khalid) was brought carried (as I was small girl at that time). The Prophet took the Khamisa in his hands and made me wear it and said, “May you live so long that your dress will wear out and you will mend it many times.” On the Khamisa there were some green or pale designs (The Prophet saw these designs) and said, “O Um Khalid! This is Sanah.” (Sanah is an Ethiopian word meaning beautiful). Bukhari 5823

13 - IT IS RECOMMENDED FOR YOUR CLOTHES TO BE WHITE OR WHITISH

Ibn Abbas
The Prophet (saw) said: “Wear the white clothes, it is the best of your clothes, and make it the coffin of your dead people.” Musnad Imam Ahmad 2220, Abu Dawood 4061

Sumra bin jundub
The Prophet (saw) said: “Wear from your clothes the white, it is cleaner and purer, and make the coffins for your dead people to be in white.”
Musnad Imam Ahmad 19599, An-nasaa’i 5322

- It is forbidden to wear multicoloured patterned clothes for men, (it is for the kuffar).
- It is forbidden to wear PURE BRIGHT RED.

Abdullah ibn amru ibn al ‘as said: “The Prophet (saw) saw me wearing a multicoloured clothes, and he told me, “this is the clothes of the kuffar do not wear it” …”

in another narration:

Abdullah ibn amru ibn ‘as said: “The Prophet (saw) saw me wearing a multicoloured clothes, and he asked, “did your mother ask you to wear that (or are you wearing the clothes of your mother)?” he said “No, shall I wash it?” the Prophet (saw) said, “No, burn it.” …”

Muslim 2077 , Musnad Imam Ahmad 6477, An-Nasaa’i 5316

Mu’asfar - multicoloured pattern, or pattern even if it is the same colour

[It is allowed for women]

14 - IT IS RECOMMENDED FOR MEN TO WEAR RINGS

- As long as it is not gold
- Wear on either/both the two small fingers

Anas reported: “The Prophet (saw) made for himself, and we used to take rings for ourselves, with engravings. And we used to see it bright on his small finger. And the Prophet (saw) said, “do not wear the ring on the middle finger or the index finger.” Bukhari 5874, Muslim 2092, Musnad Imam Ahmad 12309, Tirmizi 2718

Imam ‘Ali: “The Prophet (saw) forbade me to put rings on my index and middle finger …” Muslim 2078, Abu Dawood 4225

The Fuqaha of the salaf have Ijma’ (consensus) that it is recommended to wear the ring on the right hand little finger. And permissible to wear on other fingers, on the right and left hand. And it is Haram to wear on the thumb or the index or middle fingers.

15 - IT IS RECOMMENDED TO ALWAYS WEAR PERFUME

Anas said: “I never touched silk or any dibaj or any other clothes that was softer than the hand of the Prophet (saw), and never smelt anything nicer than the Prophet (saw)” Muslim 444, Musnad Imam Ahmad 7309

It is allowed for both men and women but Haram in Hajj. Bukhari 1850, Muslim 1206

Ya’la bin Umaiya: “A man came to the Prophet while he was at Ja’rana. The man was wearing a cloak which had traces of Khaluq or Sufra (a kind of perfume). The man asked (the Prophet ), “What do you order me to perform in my ‘Umra?” So, Allah inspired the Prophet divinely and he was screened by a place of cloth. I wished to see the Prophet being divinely inspired. ‘Umar said to me, “Come! Will you be pleased to look at the Prophet while Allah is inspiring him?” I replied in the affirmative. ‘Umar lifted one corner of the cloth and I looked at the Prophet who was snoring. (The sub-narrator thought that he said: The snoring was like that of a camel). When that state was over, the Prophet asked, “Where is the questioner who asked about ‘Umra? Put off your cloak and wash away the traces of Khaluq from your body and clean the Sufra (yellow color) and perform in your Umra what you perform in your Hajj (i.e. the Tawaf round the Ka’ba and the Sa’i between Safa and Marwa). “ Bukhari 3/17

Women cannot go out with perfume, only in front of mahram.

And cannot wear it under certain circumstances at home:
- In her ‘Iddah period,
- for 4 months and 10 days after her husbands death.

“During the grieving period, we never wore kohl, nor perfume, nor coloured clothes, and we were given permit to when doing ghusl for menstruation to organise her nails. And we were forbidden to follow any janazah.” Bukhari 313 , Muslim 938 , Abu Dawood 2302

- She cannot go to a place wear men gather wearing perfume.

Abu Musa said
The Prophet (saw) said: “If a women passes men with perfume, and they smell her, she is a fornicator.” Musnad Imam Ahmad 19248 , Nasaa’i 5126
