A Great way to meet lots of muslims and learn about Islam.

Allah (swt) said: “Who has created all ships so that you may ride and in order that you may mount them and remember the favour of Allah” [Zukhruf: 12-14]

ADAB OF WALKING

1- IT IS PROHIBITED TO WALK ARROGANTLY

The Prophet (saw) said: “Whosoever walks with dignity and to be majestic with his own breath will be punished by Allah (swt)”

Abu Huraira
The Prophet (saw) said: “a man was walking with a new dress, and he had much pride, he was showing off eventually he will fall down form his pride like on his chair leaning back” Bukhari 5789, Muslim 2088, Musnad Imam Ahmad 7574

Abu Said Al-Khidree
The Prophet (saw) said: “Dignity is the belt of Allah, and to be Majestic is the walk of Allah, and nobody should walk with this mentality” Muslim 2620, Ahmad 8677

It is not allowed to walk arrogantly except in Jihad

“A man was in the battlefield, Abu Dajanah wore a red bandage on his head and started to walk with arrogance, The Prophet (saw) said Allah (swt) hates it except in this place Allah (swt) likes it.”

2- WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO WALK?

Ibn Qayyim said: “The Prophet (saw) used not to walk from side to side, he walked straight”

Abu Huraira: “I never saw any one like him (the Prophet (saw)) when he walked he used not to run, but no one was faster than him, it was like the world was moving towards him.”

- He would walk forward and fast, it was the best and the most silent, and very tranquil

A man said: “When he (the Prophet (saw)) walked, the sun moved on his own face. I could see the shade of the sun on his face, it was like the earth was coming towards him, we would tire and he would never tire.”

Ten Forbidden types of walking:

- It is forbidden to do At-takallu

“The Prophet (saw) never used to drag his feet (it is Haram) (At takallu)”

- It is not allowed to walk like the crazy camel
- It is not allowed to walk like the mummy
- It is Sunnah to hurry to do good deeds
- To run with close steps is recommended, to do it in hajj in safar marwa it is waajib
- Running quickly is allowed as long as it does not harm you
- It is Haram to walk in a homosexual camp way
- To walk backwards is not allowed (more than three steps)
- Jumping when walking is not allowed
- Walking as if you are about to fight is not allowed except in jihad
(It is a type of arrogant walking)

Ibn Qayyim [Zaad al-ma’aad vol.1]

3- IT IS FORBIDDEN TO WALK WITH ONE SHOE

Abu Huraira narrated
The Prophet (saw) said: “If you have a sandal and the strap breaks, do not wear the other until it is fixed” Muslim 2098, Musnad Imam Ahmad 9199

Abu Huraira narrated
The Prophet (saw) said: “No one of you should walk wearing one shoe, both should be bare or covered” Bukhari , Muslim , Musnad Imam Ahmad 7302, Tirmizi 1774

- Some say it is makrouh
- Some say makrouh tahrim
- OBM says Haram

Abu Huraira reported
The Prophet (saw) said: “The Shaytan walks with one shoe.” Al-Albaani (saheeh) 348

- The Sunnah is to walk bare foot
- Combining ALL the evidences says that it is Forbidden

4- IT IS RECOMMENDED TO WALK BAREFOOT FROM TIME TO TIME

Buraydah reported: “A sahabi visited fudala ibn ‘Ubayd in Egypt, he said “I did not come to visit you just for the sake of it, I came to ask you if you remember something that the Prophet (saw) said. I wish if you still remember what he said to (both of) us” ibn ‘Ubayd said, “what is that”, he told him.
He asked him why his hair was a mess; he said, “ the Prophet (saw) said not to always be vain.” He asked why he was barefoot, He said, “the Prophet (saw) ordered us to be barefoot from time to time."” Abu Dawood, Musnad Imam Ahmad 23449

Abdullah ibn Umar
When he visited Sa’id ibn ‘Ubada nobody was wearing shoes.

Ibn Hajr said: “Verily in bare feet man will break and realise how weak you are, and you will see how close you are to Allah (swt) and will appreciate Allah (swt) more (Because it hurts)”

ADAB OF RIDING

1 - WHEN RIDING IT IS RECOMMENDED FOR THE ONE WHO OWNS IT OR OLDER TO SIT AT THE FRONT

2 - IT IS PERMISSIBLE TO HAVE MORE THAN ONE PERSON ON AN ANIMAL AS LONG AS IT DOES NOT OVERLOAD THE ANIMAL OTHERWISE IT IS NOT ALLOWED.

[Bukhari and Muslim]

3 - IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO DELIVER TALKS WHILE RIDING.

The Prophet (saw) said: “Do not take the back of the animals as a minbar for your talks, Allah made it to reach countries that you cannot reach, and he made the land to make all the deeds” Abu Dawood 2567, Musnad Imam Ahmad 1744

- This is different from the car, as the car can be used for more than just to travel, it can be used to live in and other things etc
- Also because hardship is never caused to cars
- but to the animals don’t cause them hardship,
- this is why we do not take the back of the animal as a minbar
- Allah made the animals so that we can reach a country or destination, and the animal can’t reach it except with hardship
- So no public talks on the animal
- He made the land for the urine, to eat, talk and sleep,
- So don’t do all three things over the horse or camel
- The purpose of the horse is to carry you from place to place not to amuse you
- Those who guard on the horse should get down and guard.
- The Prophet (saw) did not accept people to trade over the horse or camel,

4- THE RIGHTS OF THE ROAD

The rights of the road are:

- To Lower your gaze
- To Refraining from harming others
- To return the Salam
- To command good and forbid evil.

Abu Sa’id Al Khidree
The Prophet (saw) said,

“Beware! Avoid sitting on the roads.”

They (the people) said, “O Allah’s Apostle! We can’t help sitting (on the roads) as these are (our places) where we have talks.”

The Prophet said, “If you refuse but to sit, then pay the road its right.”

They said, “What is the right of the road, O Allah’s Apostle?”

He (saw) said, “Lowering your gaze, refraining from harming others, returning the greeting, and commanding good, and forbidding what is evil.” Bukhari Vol 8 No. 248
